New Zealand Transport Related AgenciesAuckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA): ARTA was established in 2004 to plan, fund and develop a successful transport system for the rapidly growing Auckland region. ARTA's vision is to deliver a world-class transport system that makes Auckland an even better place to live, work and play. ARTA is responsible for the integrated planning and funding of transport (excluding State Highways) throughout the Auckland region. Ministry of Transport - Auckland Road Users: The Ministry of Transport is the government's principal transport policy adviser, the Ministry both leads and generates policy. The Ministry of Transport acts as the Minister of Transport's agent for managing the interface with the transport Crown entities, the Aviation Security Service, and the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand. NZ Transport Agency: The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is a Crown entity established on 1 August 2008, bringing together the functions of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand to provide an integrated approach to transport planning, funding and delivery. NZ Police's Road Policing in New Zealand: New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. Health & Safety OrganisationsAccident Compensation Corporation (ACC) - Preventing Injuries on the Road: In 2008, there were 366 fatalities and 6,049 new entitlement claims on New Zealand roads. ACC works with other agencies to reduce the number and severity of road crashes and injuries. All injuries and deaths on the road are preventable, and responsible drivers make our roads safer. Automobile Association (AA) - Road Safety: AA is regarded as the leading advocate for New Zealand motorists, their safety and their interests. The Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC): The ALAC encourages responsible use and minimise misuse of alcohol and other drug related issues. Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS): The ARPHS provides a wide range of services aimed at improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of people living, visiting, working and playing in the Auckland region. Alcohol Healthwatch: Alcohol Healthwatch is a charitable trust dedicated to reducing and preventing alcohol related harm in New Zealand through effective health promotion. They specialise in advocacy for public policies and legislation that will result in safer practices and healthier environments related to alcohol. Education AgenciesThe Brain Injury Association (BIANZ): The BIANZ Education Advisory Service works to raise public awareness and understanding of brain injury and ways to prevent it. One of their programmes includes the Road Safety programme – a powerful, interactive prevention programme designed to teach drivers of all ages the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. Includes general information about brain injury and brain injury prevention. RoadSense Ata Haere: Road safety education site with resources for teachers and activities for children. Provides support for an education programme to improve the safety of primary and intermediate school children when they are on or near the road. Includes lessons and unit plans for the classroom and contact details for RoadSense facilitators. Safekids: Safekids New Zealand is the national child injury prevention service, and a service of Starship Children's Health. Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD): SADD's mission is to reduce harm among young people by promoting the alternatives to drinking and driving through positive peer influences. | |||||||||||||
