The use of safety belts and child restraints in the Auckland region is above the national average, but beneath that of the best region.Regional Road Safety Plan (2009) ![]() The Auckland region has a high rate of safety belt use. The most recent survey (2001) from the Land Transport NZ shows that adult front seat safety belts wearing rates are as high as 99% in Auckland City and 94% across the region. Adult rear seat wearing has increased and is now around 84% across the region. Child safety seat use is still comparatively low with an average of 75% use across the region. ACC Injury Prevention along with a variety of community organisations continues to run safety belt programmes in local communities. This includes conducting baseline surveys, organising community safety promotions, sending out warning letters and following up with enforcement checkpoints with the police.
