We see more vehicles on the road every day. So it’s great to see more people riding bikes to work or school, because those cyclists are doing their bit to ease congestion and reduce fuel use. Cycling is not only good for the environment it is a healthy way to get around, so motorists can help by watching out for bikes.
On the road we rely on others to act responsibly, whether we are motorists, motorcyclists, truck drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. All road users have rights and responsibilities to obey the road rules, including sharing the road, or injuries and crashes can occur. Try putting yourself in another road user’s space and think before you act.
Cyclists are particularly vulnerable and need to take care to be safe and to be seen. Those in other vehicles have to show similar care to watch out for bikes.
If everybody takes care we can make the road a far safer place for cyclists and all traffic in turn – see our cyclist page for more information.
