Funding Funding

Road safety funding in the Auckland region comes from a variety of sources, but predominantly from the National Land Transport Fund in the form of community funded activities, the Road Policing Programme and safety engineering improvements on local roads and state highways.

ARTA plays a central coordinating role in funding community programmes and local road and State highway engineering projects through the Regional Land Transport Programme.

Funding of police activity is directly funded from the National Land Transport Fund. Other agencies such as the Accident Compensation Corporation and the Ministry of Health also have an ongoing, but relatively minor, funding role in the region.

Small Project Fund

RoadSafe Auckland administers a Small Project Fund for projects up to $5,000. Further information and instructions about the funding criteria are outlined in the downloadable forms:

Walking School Bus Fund

Walking School Bus

The TravelWise website provides guidelines and resources to help set up a Walking School Bus. Funding is available for schools setting up Walking School Buses and each school is eligible for up to $500 per route, on the condition that they keep the bus running for a minimum of two years.
